about kristin

I have spent the better part of my adult life working as a hair colorist in NYC. It truly has been a dream career for me. So much so that when I moved to a new city and had a baby in 2018; I continued to go back to NYC to see my clients every 4-6 weeks. That allowed me to keep that part of my identity, maintain my career, recharge my “mom batteries” so-to-speak, but primarily stay home and raise our new son. It worked very well for our family. UNTILLL... there was a global pandemic and that was put on an indefinite hiatus.

After several months of not working, I began to feel very bored and uninspired. Then I saw a video of someone decorating cookies on Instagram and thought, “I think I could do that.” I had 15+ years of color theory experience and doing tedious, intricate highlights on people didn’t seem SO different from creating tedious intricate designs on cookies. Turns out that at least for me, the processes really went hand in hand.

Hi there, I’m Kristin!

I’m the one doing most of the fun stuff at True Love Cookie Co. Baking, planning, decorating, interacting with all of you, etc. My husband, Matt, so graciously takes on much of the behind the scenes, business portion and for that my creative, but not so business minded self is very grateful! All of this to say, while True Love is my (second) baby, it wouldn’t happen without some real team work!

finding my passion

After several months of decorating cookies for fun, I realized this could be a perfect way for me to continue to be independently and creatively fulfilled while also continuing to stay home with our son.

they had to taste just right

I think it’s also important to note here that I am a sweet treat fanatic. So these cookies, they couldn’t just be little works of art. They also needed to be really delicious. For me, there’s almost nothing worse than biting into a treat and being disappointed. (Maybe that feels a touch dramatic, but I stand by it.) Countless ingredients, recipes and hours were put into getting to a place that seemed “just right”.

And that brings us to the origin of True Love. Honestly, no other name really seemed like a viable option. Making cookies for a living! Being a piece of special events in people’s lives! Being able to work and mostly stay home with my son! Freedom to also pursue my hair colorist career! Every aspect of this feels like exactly that. True Love.

I am so genuinely grateful for your interest in my work and I hope we get to work together soon. Thank you for being here!
